Talitha Kum 2nd General Assembly
From May 18-24, 2024, the Talitha Kum network held its 2nd General Assembly at Fraterna Domus in Sacrofano, gathering 153 delegates and participants from 71 countries. The assembly’s theme, “Journeying Together to End Human Trafficking: Compassion in Action for Transformation,” underscored the network’s commitment to eradicating human trafficking globally.
- Goals and Themes:
The assembly focused on:
– Sharing experiences and listening to grassroots voices.
– Embracing the network’s identity and diversity.
– Strengthening relationships and collaboration.
– Revisiting action priorities in light of new realities.
– Celebrating Talitha Kum’s 15th anniversary.
Inspiration and Vision:
Empowered by the spirit of Pentecost, participants reaffirmed their commitment to ending human trafficking, inspired by the call to give life abundantly (John 10:10) and to rise up against suffering (Mark 5:41).
New Priorities (2025-2030):
In response to the evolving global context, the assembly outlined three key priorities:
- Systemic Change in the Face of New Vulnerabilities:
– Dismantle systems enabling human trafficking through social, economic, cultural, and political transformation.
– Empower vulnerable groups and promote education and advocacy to reduce trafficking demand.
– Advocate for legal changes and support for at-risk populations, including migrants and refugees.
– Address migration and displacement issues and promote cyber safety. - Holistic, Survivor-Centred Approach:
– Focus on the integral healing and empowerment of trafficking survivors.
– Create safe spaces, peer support, and survivor-led initiatives.
– Provide comprehensive support services, including education, health, housing, legal aid, and job opportunities. - Broadening Collaboration and Partnerships:
– Engage diverse community members and organizations to strengthen anti-trafficking efforts.
– Promote equality, share resources and best practices, and address climate change impacts.
– Involve young people as leaders in awareness campaigns and expand the reach of the International Day of Prayer and Awareness on February 8th.
